The Vancouver International Fringe Festival continues its merry ways until Sept. 16. (Watch for reviews in next Wednesday’s edition of the Courier). Among the dozens of shows at the festival, Staircase XI Theatre Society presents Home Free! by American playwright Lanford Hughes at Granville Island’s Carousel Theatre. The “evocative, dark comedy” follows a brother and sister, living as a married couple, who are faced with a problem they’re unable to navigate. No kidding. More info at vancouverfringe.com.

Gregg Gillis not only has an extra “g” in his first name, but he’s better known as Girl Talk, the mash-up crazy DJ who dices, slices and splices hip hop, classic rock, metal, Motown, electronica and just about anything else he pleases into one sweaty, dirty, booty-shaking workout. His albums are inspired and his live shows are hedonistically fun. Girl Talk brings the noise to the Commodore for a sold-out show Sept. 7.
The term living legend gets thrown around a little too easily, but it’s not a stretch when describing Wanda Jackson. “The Queen of Rockabilly” known for her hit songs “Fujiyama Mama” and her raucous version of “Let’s Have a Party,” plays an early show, Sept. 8, at Venue. Cousin Harley opens. Tickets at Red Cat, Zulu Records and Ticketmaster.
Theatre veterans William Samples, Michael Dobbin and John Innes play cantankerous war veterans holed up in a military hospital who hatch a harebrained escape scheme in the Tom Stoppard comedy Heroes. It runs until Sept. 30 at the PAL Theatre in Coal Harbour. Tickets at brownpapertickets.com.
