Their new show, Die Roten Punkte: Eurosmash!, promises the same sibling rivalry, musical satire and punk rock mayhem that made them a Fringe festival hit years ago. Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society's latest lowbrow hybrid of musical parody and burlesque, Oliver Fannie, brings its pasties-positive tale of adventure to Granville Island's Waterfront Theatre. Written and choreographed by Melody Mangler, the "light-hearted look at sexuality, repression and prostitution" which mixes Oliver with a twist of Annie teases audiences until Sept. 21. For tickets, go to brownpapertickets.com.
Former General Hospital star, '80s heartthrob and keeper of Courier reporter Cheryl Rossi's eternal flame, Rick Springfield gels up his hair and dusts off his guitar to bring some seductive nostalgia and "human touch" to the PNE Summer Nights concert series Aug. 24, 8 p.m. Admission is free with entry to the fair.
You won't find a more captive audience with the munchies than at a Black Mountain show. So expect a few lineups at the food carts when Vancouver's brothers and sister of the beard kick out the jams and unleash the psychedelic sludge Aug. 25 in the sun-baked parking lot of the Waldorf Hotel. The all-ages event will have the aforementioned food trucks, a beer garden and a lineup handpicked by Black Mountain, including Ladyhawk, Basketball, Von Bingen and Toronto's Quest for Fire. Tickets $15 at Zulu, Red Cat, Beat Street, Dandelion, Neptoon, or online at black-mountain.eventbrite.com. More info at waldorfhotel.com.
