I am a retired senior, 85 years of age. This letter is to Mayor Wayne Wright, whom I voted for every year since he became mayor. This is in regards to the announcement that city residents face a 2.5 per cent tax increase. This tax increase is totally unnecessary if Mayor Wright used some intestinal fortitude and stated that there will be no further salary increases or wage increases annually for city staff members or city workers. They are not justified, and there should be a rollback of salaries or a huge layoff.
I believe city workers are well-compensated for having long coffee breaks and long lunch hours. It's time to work eight hours for eight hours' pay and delete the card game playing.
(City finance director) Gary Holowatiuk can start the ball rolling by asking for a salary rollback, as his is now closing in on $200,000 per annum. Taxes have increased on my property every year since 1948. Roll them back, Mayor Wright, and while you're at it, sir, reduce your own annual stipend and the council members from six to two.
As stated above, intestinal fortitude, sir.
