“There are no second acts in American life,” F. Scott Fitzgerald famously wrote. But that was before podcasts. Comedian Marc Maron is enjoying a second kick at the can with his popular twice weekly podcast WTF, where the coffee lover and feral cat rescuer conducts free-ranging and intimate conversations with fellow comedians and celebrities, mends fences, settles old grudges and tries to become a more well-adjused person, which comes with its own sets of challenges. Maron will be in town three nights for the Vancouver ComedyFest starting Feb. 23, when he performs standup at the Comedy Mix. The next night he’s at the Rio Theatre for a sold out live WTF with David Cross and Bob Odenkirk. If that’s not enough, you can catch him at the festival’s closing gala Feb. 25 at The Centre for Performing Arts. More info at comedyfest.com.

Screening as part of Vancity Theatre’s Black History Month programming, Vanessa Richards’ documentary Skins and Steel celebrates the early pioneers of Caribbean drumming and dance in mid-20th century Vancouver. For the event, live performances of Trinidadian folkloric music by the legendary Afro Caribs along with singer/dancer Thelma Gibson and steel pan virtuoso Kendrick Headley are interwoven with archival footage from the vaults of CBC, including Bamboula: A Day In The West Indies and They Shall Be One, which provide glimpses of multi-culturalism and attitudes towards “mixed race” children in 1950s and ’60s Vancouver. Doors 6:30 p.m., show 7 p.m., Feb. 23. For more info, call 604-683-FILM (3456) or go to viff.org.
