Property: Basement suite in the 3800 block of West 18th Avenue.
One of the problems of having B.C.’s largest university adjacent to some of Canada’s most expensive homes is that student housing is a pain to find.
Dunbar, one of the closest residential neighborhoods to the University of B.C., has perfected the symbiotic residential relationship known as the basement suite. Students get a relatively cheap rental, while longtime residents can have a little extra money to put towards the mortgage.
Breanna Walker, a University B.C. student studying kinesiology, lives in a suite in the 3800 block of West 18th avenue. It’s a cozy spot — despite its low ceilings and shortage of natural light.
