Sing a song. Make music. Celebrate. The famous BC Girls Choir celebrates song in their year-end concert, entitled "Earth Songs: Wind & Water, Sun & Stars." All levels of the choir will be featured, plus alumnae. The concert is this

Saturday, June 2, 7: 30 p.m. start at Bethany Baptist Church, 22680 Westminster Hwy., (east) Richmond. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Yes, I did say this choir is famous. They have toured around the world over the years and made fans everywhere. We can be fans, too, just by attending this concert.

There is nothing better in the arts than fans. You know, celebrities get fan mail along with their star status. OK, so I may not be a star, but I do get fan mail. Well, I like to call it fan mail, even if it is just someone trying to promote

their own product. Bob Bradley wrote to me regarding what he called my "glowing report" on Mark Donnelly's performance in the Fraser Valley Gilbert & Sullivan Society's recent production of The Mikado at the Coast Capital Playhouse in White Rock. Bob (we are all friends here) wanted me to know that Mark directs a select men's chorus, Pacific Showtime. "We are looking to an exciting year of performances under his direction," says Bob. This chorus (according to Bob) is always looking for male choristers who enjoy singing a varied repertoire. You know, sometimes I wonder where they are now - our stars-in-the-making we see as they grow up. Hope Hibbert sent me a note (yes, I will consider it fan mail, too) to let me know her daughter, Alana Hibbert (from Delta), is playing the lead role of Sarah in the Shaw Festival production of Ragtime in Niagara on the Lake. The show opened Saturday, May 26 and runs until mid-October. Alana was here at home last spring and gave an outstanding, memorable performance as Motormouth Maybelle in the Arts Club production of Hairspray. Hope also said, "A big thank you for your support and promotion of all the young and talented artists in our community." Aw, gee.

Don't mention it. It's a bonus that so many of the young people in our community have the opportunity to perform and share their talent with us.

It is also a wonderful thing that there are opportunities to learn and grow in the performing arts. There are all kinds of classes, workshops and summer camps designed for young people in the arts.

Surrey Youth Theatre Company (SYTCO) is holding auditions for its upcoming

16th season. Wow, 15 years already! I remember talking with Susan Pendleton when she was just starting this program - seems like yesterday. Time for action. The auditions are Monday, June 4 from 3: 30 to 7: 30 p.m., open to boys and girls age eight to 17 who want to grow in their theatre experiences.
