Top model: Seventeen-year-old Alexia Fast from Vancouver took top honours among 20 teen queens at the River Rock Resort-hosted International Top Model-North America gala dinner and pageant presented by CHMB 1320. Fast, an aspiring actor from Magee secondary, will go on to represent North America in China's most prestigious modelling competition this fall. The night of glamour and gowns generated nearly $70,000 for the B.C. Cancer Foundation and purchase of a PET/CT scanner.

Packing meat: After more than two years at George, current Barkeep of the Year Shaun Layton will join chef Lee Cooper and Paul Grunberg (former GM for Chambar, Shangri-la's Market and Bao Bei) for the duo's first resto venture. Located in the old Irish Heather space in Gastown, L'Abattoir, meaning slaughterhouse, is a nod to its location‹where once butcher shops were located apparently.

Down there: Nearly 1,000 participants dressed down to their skivvies to raise $552,000 in the 10-kilometre run/5-k walk B.C. Cancer Foundation Underwear Affair. The fifth running saw scantily clad runners and walkers take to the streets to shed light on cancers below the waist. Yours truly emceed the Exposed after-party at Seaforth Armoury.
