Mixing Latin, Caribbean, hip hop, jazz and other shag carpet-friendly stylings, local outfit Pacifika gets its global groove on in support of its latest album Supermagique, which, if our high school French still holds up, roughly translates to “Jean-Paul’s chocolate school bus.” It all goes down April 25 at the Waldorf. Tickets $15 at the door. More info at waldorfhotel.com.

Ever since I got drunk at my aunt and uncle’s retirement party and performed “the worm” across the floor of the Salt Spring Island community hall, I’ve had a deep appreciation and understanding of the physical demands required to be a break dancer. Choreographer Crazy Smooth takes it up a notch with the hip -hop, street dance showcase IZM, featuring 10 of Canada’s most talented performers breaking, rocking and, fingers crossed, doing the worm. It runs until April 29 at the Cultch. For tickets and info, go to thecultch.com or call 604-251-1363.
Fans of sharp, sassy, funny, all-female Canadian folk music, your dry-witted dream journal entries have been answered. Toronto trio The Good Lovelies play St. James Hall, April 26, 8 p.m., in support of their Juno Award-nominated album Let the Rain Fall, which is something you’d never hear from a Vancouver band. Tickets at Highlife Records and Rufus’s Guitar Shop, online at roguefolk.bc.ca or by calling 604-736-3022.
As the temperature rises, so too does the Arts Club Theatre Company’s propensity for crowd-pleasing, light-hearted comedy. Having attempted to spice up their love life in the smash hit Sexy Laundry, Henry (Andrew Wheeler) and Alice (Susinn McFarlen) are back at it and trying to enjoy the great outdoors in Henry and Alice: Into the Wild. Wackiness ensues, April 25 to May 26 at the Granville Island Stage. For tickets and more info, call 604-687-1644 or go to artsclub.com.
