Sounding like he walked off the movie set of Clambake or Beach Blanket Bingo, San Francisco troubadour Sonny Smith and his band the Sunsets bring their salty, ’60s-influenced brand of bohemian beach rock to the Waldorf, Aug. 1, 9 p.m. More info at waldorfhotel.com.
Dances for a Small Stage returns to The Legion on Commercial Drive for back-to-back editions Aug. 1 to 2 and Aug. 3 to 4, featuring internationally renowned choreographer Peter Chu’s Nothing Sticks, rising star Karissa Barry, Ballet BC dancers Dario Dinuzzi, Daniel Marshalsay and Peter Smida, sisters Yeva and Thoenn Glover, and returning artists Leon Feizo-Gas, Caroline Liffman and Lina Fitzner. For more info, go to movent.ca.
The good news is that Vancouver’s beloved folk mamas the Be Good Tanyas have reunited and are playing a free concert at English Bay. The bad news is you’ll have to brave the hordes of Celebration of Light fireworks attendees to see them play Aug. 1, 7:30 p.m. as part of Shorefest.
