Picks of the week - June 22, 2012

Dust off that beret, comb your goatee and flex those jazz hands. The Vancouver International Jazz Festival is back to unleash its sophisticated powers on the slovenly masses. Running June 22 to July 1, the much-loved and well-attended event features ticketed and free concerts by an array of local and international jazz—and not exactly jazz—performers, including George Benson, Jill Barber, Trombone Shorty, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Destroyer, the Avett Brothers, Balkan Beat Box, Kid Koala, Janelle Monáe and No Sinner. For more information, go to coastaljazz.ca.
