McFarland

Kevin Costner plays real-life high school coach Jim White, whose life did a 180 when his football coaching career stalled and he found himself moving his family to the impoverished town of McFarland, Calif., and coaching cross-country running. It was a brand-new sport in 1987, a rich-kids’ sport, and an oddball choice for the Hispanic kids destined to spend their lives picking almonds in the fields. It’s a family-friendly film buoyed by big clap-out-loud moments and small details that flesh out a classic underdog story. Extras on the Blu-ray disc include: interviews with Costner and the real runners portrayed in the film, a “Juntos (Together)” music video and extended promo, as well as deleted and extended scenes.

The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water

When Burger Beard (Antonio Banderas) steals the formula for Krabby Patties, turning Bikini Bottom into a post-apocalyptic wasteland, it’s up to Spongebob and his friends to brave the surface — thanks to an omnipotent dolphin — and save the day. The ridiculousness continues on the film’s dozens of extras: Out of His World talks about the challenge of creating a culturally acceptable 3D Spongebob; When I Grow Up, I Want to Make Funny Sounds shows the real people behind the zany characters. There’s an extra on how they transformed Banderas into Burger Beard (an hour of makeup each day); one dedicated to the Burger chase sequence, and a fashion extra entitled It’s Hip To Be Squarepants. A weird French minimalist film chronicles a day in the life of a sponge; “Her Deepness” educates us about Plankton; plus there are Spongebob singalongs, music videos, deleted scenes, and more.

Project Almanac

David Raskin (Jonny Weston), high school genius, finds clues that lead him to a time travel device in the basement. With the help of his equally brilliant buddies (Allen Evangelista, Sam Lerner) and videographer sister (Virginia Gardner) they conquer conventional time and do what normal teenagers would do: they get hot girls and win the lottery. But falling in love (with Sofia Black D’Elia) mid time-travel is tricky, and David discovers that there are no easy second chances. Extras on the Blu-ray include and alternate opening scene, deleted scenes and two alternate endings.
