2. Break out the hankies as Canadian icons the Tragically Hip perform their last show in front of a hometown crowd in Kingston, Ont. Earlier this year the band announced singer Gord Downie had incurable brain cancer and embarked on a final cross Canada tour. Venues across the city, including the Commodore, the Rio Theatre and the Woodward’s Atrium, will broadcast the live concert Aug. 20, 5:30 p.m.

4. Local shredders Gross Misconduct spread the dark forces of metal across the Rickshaw Theatre stage as part of a colossally evil and punishing bill that includes Torrefy, WTCHDR, Skull Vultures, Nylithia and Skeletonwitch. Sounds pretty family friendly. Say goodbye to your loved ones and embrace the darkness Aug. 19, 7 p.m. Tickets at Neptoon, Red Cat and ticketfly.com.
