Top 5 things to do this Tuesday in Vancouver

March 3, 2015

Get your tukhus to W. 41st: There’s an old saying that a true Jewish joke is one that no goy can understand and every Jew says they’ve already heard. See for yourself if this maxim is on the schnoz when mensches Mike Capozzola, Samson Koletkar and Joseph Nguyen —  three Jewish comedians from across the Jewish diaspora who are also, respectively, Italian, East Indian and Vietnamese-American — bring their shtick for You’re Funny, But You Don’t Look Jewish tonight at the Norman and Annette Rothstein Theatre as part of the ongoing Chutzpah Festival.

Get on up: Despite the lack of snow, the Grouse Grind remains closed but exercise enthusiasts looking to get their heart rates up can head on over to 147-metre-tall Harbour Centre today for Urban Grind between 4:30 and 6 p.m. The $5 admission includes a post-climb beer and a food court voucher.

Get maternal: All-male punk rock band Single Mothers from London hit Electric Owl in support of their first feature-length baby Negative Qualities. The Dirty Nil open.

Get manly: As part of the upcoming International Women's Day celebration, the Cinematheque is offering a free screening of director Jennifer Siebel Newsom's new documentary The Mask You Live In about boys and young men negotiating narrow definitions of masculinity and exploring issues of equality between men and women. The 6:30 p.m. screening will be followed by a panel discussion, hosted by Janet Austin, CEO of YWCA Metro Vancouver.

Get booming: Fringe fest fave Rick Miller (MacHomer, Bigger Than Jesus) brings his latest one-man show BOOM that takes aim at baby boomers at West Van’s Kay Meek Centre featuring multi-media projections to highlight the major global events of the era (1945-1969) ranging from the Cold War to Beatlemania, Trudeaumania, JFK, MLK and the Summer of Love.
