Top 5 things to do this Tuesday in Vancouver

April 28, 2015

Get counting: Adam Duritz and the rest of the band Jones have probably given up on becoming the big stars they said they aspired to be in their big 1993 hit song “Mr. Jones” but the Berkeley-based Counting Crows are still hanging around and play the Orpheum Theatre tonight in support of new album Somewhere Under Wonderland. Twin Forks open.

Get your geek on: It’s the last Tuesday of the month, which means the West Coast Geeks versus Nerds comedy troupe will once again be doing improv battle to settle the answer to two meaningless pop culture questions at Gastown’s Portside Pub. Tonight audiences will get to decide who is the most despicable fictional character (Daffy Duck or Seinfeld’s George Costanza) and who is the best time traveller – Link from The Legend of Zelda or time lord Dr. Who. There can be only one.

Get picky: The Fox Cabaret hosts the launch party for local singer/songwriter Zaac Pick new album Constellations.Boreal Sons from Calgary open.

Get stationary: Have a seat in the Cultch’s Historic Theatre for a performance of Stationary, a remount of Delinquent Theatre’s Recession-era indie musical about the moment when big dreams meet reality checks, tackling post-recession existence with ukulele in hand.

Get some novelty: Comediennes Sara Bynoe and Riel Hahn bring their crowd-pleasing “Novelty Act” back to the Emerald tonight. Although they may have to rethink the name now that it is becoming more of a regular thing. Added bonus: half-price cocktails.
