Top 5 things to do this Wednesday in Vancouver

Feb. 25, 2015

Get ready for April 12: With the season five premiere of Game of Thrones just 47 days away, brush up on your knowledge of all things Westeros with a special trivia night at the Biltmore Cabaret emceed by IQ 2000, who may have a silly name but is a much better host than anyone from the House of Frey. The evening is sure to be a fun time even if you know nothing, not unlike Jon Snow. There’ll be prizes galore (including for best costume) live music, burlesque and reasonable facsimiles of mead, Tyroshi pear brandy and Dornish sour red available at the bar.

Get surreal: Steven Hill directs SFU students in a production of Marie Clement's 2004 surrealist play The Unnatural and Accidental Women based on a thirty-year-old murder case involving the deaths of at least ten women in the Downtown Eastside. The show premieres tonight at Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.

Get quirky: Hosted by drag queen/illusionist Symone, Reel Causes’ Quirk-a-Palooza Fundraiser kicks off tonight at Vancity Theatre with live entertainment and the local premiere of the film Attila Marcel by French director Sylvain Chomet — best known for The Triplets of Belleville.

Get converged: As part of the ongoing 14th annual Talking Stick festival, the Roundhouse Community Centre hosts Currents of Contemporary Aboriginal Dance. Combining traditional and contemporary forms of dance, the evening feature Troy Emery Twigg's (Blackfoot) new work Iitahpoyii featuring Justin  Manyfingers (Blackfoot); RESURGENCE 1 and PASSAGE by  Christine Friday (Algonquin -Cree) and an excerpt from Conversation by Olivia C. Davies (Anishnawbe).

Get glammed up: Vancouver may never see a visit from Mötley Crüe ever again but the ridiculous spirit lives on with the likes of Black Veil Brides, who bring their ‘80s hair metal shtick to the Vogue tonight as part of their Black Mass tour.  Memphis May Fire and Ghost Town open.
