GOVERNMENT RETIREES MEET

Retired B.C. Provincial Government Employees meet at Canton Garden Restaurant, at 45595 Yale Rd. the third Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is a luncheon on April 17 beginning at 11: 45 a.m. New members welcome.

MENTAL HEALTH COMMITTEE

The Chilliwack Mental Health Advisory Committee meets the third Wednesday of each month (April 18) from 11: 30 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at the Health Centre, at 45470 Menholm Ave. Family members and mental health clients are welcome. DIABETES GROUP MEETS

The Chilliwack branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association holds informal monthly support group meetings on the third Wednesday of each month (April 18) in the Minto Room at Evergreen Hall at 2 p.m. Informative guest speakers, dietary information, and refreshments available. SENIORS TEA

Chilliwack Senior Peer Counsellors, at 45938 Wellington Ave., hosts a seniors tea the third Thursday of every month (April 19) from 2 to 3: 30 p.m. for clients to get to know volunteers. No cost, but call 604-793-7204 to confirm attendance because space is limited.

GRAD REUNION

END-OF-LIFE ETHICS

Local funeral homes host a teleconference on end-of-life ethics, as part of the 18th annual Living With Grief Teleconference, May 3 from 9: 30 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Cascade Community Church in Abbotsford. MOTOR CLUB MEETS

The Fraser Valley British Motor Club, a group or British car enthusiasts dedicated to the preservation of autos and motorbikes from England, meets in Chilliwack at the Threshermen's club house on the third Friday of each month (April 20) at 8 p.m.

GARAGE SALE FUNDRAISER

The Nightingales Relay for Life team hosts a fundraising garage sale by donation April 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Armories on Princess Ave. All proceeds will go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

AUCTION BENEFIT

Sardis Doorway (formally Open Door) celebrates 25 years of serving families in Chilliwack with a dessert auction benefit evening April 21 at Sardis Community Church (45625 South Sumas Rd.).

EARTH DAY

Earth Day Chilliwack takes place April 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mathieson Centre, at 45195 Wells Rd. The event will include local organic farmers, businesses and organizations, plant sales, artists, artisans, interactive demonstrations, panel discussions, live music, activities for kids and many opportunities to purchase and eat some amazing food. It will also mark the launch of Food Matters Chilliwack's community garden.

SHOE DRIVE

The 2012 Soles4Souls Fraser Valley Shoe Drive has begun. Donate shoes today. Donate used shoes at Vedder Elementary school, Hobby Hill Preschool, and Optimum Sports Clinic before April 21 to make a difference in the life of someone less fortunate.

EARTH DAY

Celebrate Earth Day April 22 at the Great Blue Heron Nature. Drop by the reserve between 1 and 4 p.m. and help plant shrubs, do a nature craft and watch the nesting herons.
