Picks of the week - July 17, 2012

When James Murphy decided to pull the plug on his band LCD Sound Soundsystem, he made sure he went out on top. After years of touring and three full-length albums of catchy, danceable, lyrically sharp tunes about party scenes, growing old and losing one's edge, the band played its final show April 2, 2011 in front of a sold out Madison Square Gardens. Shut Up and Play the Hits documents that concert, as well has behind the scenes footage of Murphy, interspersed with narration taken from an interview with writer Chuck Klosterman. The film hits theatres worldwide for one night only. Catch it if you can July 18, 7 p.m at Fifth Avenue. For tickets and info, go to festivalcinemas.ca.
