Tour a local greenhouse for free on B.C. Veggie Day

Farmers markets are a great place to get to know where your food comes from, but here in British Columbia we also have the chance to peek behind the scenes where some of our most prolific veggie-growing is done: Greenhouses. To celebrate B.C.

Farmers markets are a great place to get to know where your food comes from, but here in British Columbia we also have the chance to peek behind the scenes where some of our most prolific veggie-growing is done: Greenhouses.

To celebrate B.C. Veggie Day, three of B.C.’s 37 Greenhouse Growers will be generously opening their doors for free tours.

Taking place on May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Westcoast Vegetables (3975 46A St, Delta), Sunnyside Produce (1133 176 St, Surrey) and Gravis Farms (4653 Bell Rd, Abbotsford) will be offering facility tours to anyone interested in seeing how our wintertime crops are grown.

Cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and more are grown in these greenhouses, and harvested in springtime. The spaces are tricked out with watering, lighting, and spacing systems, yielding bumper crops of some of our favourite veggies. Actually, the Growers say they like to think of their greenhouses as spas for veggies.

Grab the family and head to one of the three participating greenhouses for your very own B.C. Veggie “Spa” Day tour.
