To the editor:
It’s not surprising, but all the same it’s very disappointing that the B.C. Liberal government has rejected Vancouver council’s unanimous call for election campaign spending limits, and a ban on corporate and union donations.
I say not surprising, as the B.C. Liberals have also refused a provincial ban on big corporate and union donations as well.
Election campaigns should be paid for by citizens, not special interests. It’s about fairness, and making sure that all decisions made by government are not only free of conflicts of interest, but are also seen to be.
The public interest deserves better.
