A celebrity chef who was the focus of several Courier stories has died from what’s being called and undiagnosed medical condition.

Anthony Sedlak was 29.

According to a Marketwire press release, Sedlak was found dead in his North Vancouver apartment at approximately 7 p.m. July 6.

Sedlak was best known as the host of Food Network’s The Main, as well as a cookbook of the same name, and as a judge on the TV series Family Cook Off. Sedlak was also the winner of the Foodnetwork’s Superstar Chef Challenge in 2007.

In 2011, Sedlak told the Courier he got his start cooking at age 13 when he worked as a busboy at Grouse Mountain in exchange for a snowboard pass. Two years later, he was the youngest cook on the mountain.

The Courier visited Sedlak May 4 at one of his latest ventures, The American Cheesesteak Co. restaurant on Davie Street, for a taping of an episode of the popular Food Network TV series You Gotta Eat Here! Sedlak was joined that day by Food Network host John Catucci and the pair spent much of the time cracking joked and hamming it up for the cameras. Sedlak was upbeat, friendly and obviously excited about the restaurant, which he co-owned.

Sedlak’s most recent project was reinventing the restaurants and room service menus for Toronto Don Valley Hotel and Suites.

According to the news release, a family service will be held for Sedlak in Vancouver. Publicist Andrew Poon told the Courier Sedlak’s family is asking for privacy at this time.
