A Night at the Roxy: Performing longer than most bands, Dr. Strangelove hit the Roxy stage for their 20th anniversary concert. The Roxy's house band for 14 years, the six-member group returned to Blaine Culling and Vance Campbell's iconic club and cabaret stage where it all began for a commemorative celebration. No stranger to partygoers or gala-goers, the cover band delivered ditties spanning six decades from James Brown's "I Feel Good to Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." Showing no signs of slowing down, the band will return to the Granville Entertainment strip to perform regularly at FanClub, the city's newest live music venue.
Raising a Glass: Oenophiles filed into the Pan Pacific for Liberty Wine Merchants Taste B.C. bash, formerly the B.C .Wine and Oyster Festival. Guests gathered for the tasting of B.C. wines, spirits and craft beer paired with local fare. Liberty Wine's Alex Wilde and B.C. Children's Hospital's Maureen Bailey fronted the three-hour tasting benefiting the Oak Tree Clinic, which helps improve the lives of women and children and their families affected by HIV and AIDS.
California Dreaming: While many of us are dreaming of warmers days ahead, few were lucky enough to sample sunny grapes from California, this year's theme region of the Vancouver International Wine Festival. Executive director Harry Hertscheg uncorked a selection of wines from the 180 participating wineries, many from the golden state, at the festival preview held at Chris Whittaker's Forage restaurant.
