Vancouver’s two AAA private school senior boys basketball teams will play a third game in their best-of-three series to determine which will advance to the 12-team Lower Mainland regional playoffs.
The tie-breaker between the Vancouver College Fighting Irish and St. George’s Saints is scheduled for noon Saturday on neutral territory at St. John’s School (2215 West 10th Ave.).
The Saints are ranked fifth in B.C., up from seventh last week, and the Irish are an honourable mention with five other teams just outside the top 10.
Home advantage has meant a win for both teams so far. On Jan. 16, College beat the Saints 75-74 at home in their Alumni Gymnasium. Nearly a month later on Feb. 12, the Saints won 78-65 in their Dragon’s Lair at St. George’s.
Last year both teams advanced to the Lower Mainland tournament because of a legal challenge, increasing the draw to 13 teams.
Both finished in the top five to win seats at Provincials, with Vancouver College losing to Walnut Grove by a single point to finish fourth overall.
