The fourth annual Lantern Festival was held last Friday at Haney Place Mall featuring music, performances, and poetry readings.

But the highlight of the event was a lantern parade around Memorial Peace Park that started at 7 p.m.

The free, family-oriented festival brings a "bright spot in the dead of winter," according to the lantern festival's co-chair Sammy Nelligan.

The lantern festival began as a lead-up to the 2010 Olympics with Spirit of B.C. celebrations. But the tradition is expected to continue long after the Winter Games in Vancouver faded into the history books.
