The Rio Theatre hosts a doubleheader of classic skateboarding films Oct. 4, 7:30 p.m. Yes, we know that's a mixed metaphor. First up is Stacy Peralta's 2001 documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys, which chronicles the highs and lows of the Zephyr skating team, which revolutionized the sport during the 1970s, followed by a 10 p.m. screening of Lords of Dogtown, a pretty decent Hollywood dramatization of the Z-Boys story, written by Peralta, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) and starring Heath Ledger and Emile Hirsch. More info at riotheatre.ca.
