Body found at Vancouver high school

Police confirmed the death is not suspicious

Vancouver police launched an investigation after a woman’s body was found at David Thompson secondary school in East Vancouver Feb. 24.

The body was discovered at the southwest corner of the high school's grounds. The school is located at East 55th Avenue and Argyle Street.

A person walking in the area at noon found the unconscious woman in the community garden area of the grounds. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Later in the afternoon, police and the B.C. Coroners Service confirmed the circumstances surrounding her death are not suspicious.

There were no classes at the high school Friday as it was a professional day.

The garden area was roped off. Although no students were at the school, teachers and other staff were onsite. Joggers coming down the sidewalk were detoured away.

Emily Yip, a graduate from the school, was jogging by as police investigated. She lives in the neighbourhood and said: "This is frightful. It makes you wonder what is going on, especially since it's close to the school grounds."

"It's a good thing kids aren't here today," a building maintenance staffer told the Courier.
