Tomorrow is the last chance for British Columbians to provide input to help shape this year’s provincial referendum on electoral reform.

Last November, the government launched a website, engage.gov.bc.ca/HowWeVote, to give residents the chance to learn more about voting systems used here and elsewhere in the world, and to provide input on different elements of the referendum process, including ballot design, choice of voting systems and how public funds will be distributed during the referendum campaign.

“British Columbians deserve a say in the question of how we elect our members of the legislative assembly, and how our society is governed,” Attorney General David Eby said in announcing the move in November.

Residents can visit the website to complete an online questionnaire, provide comments and review the submissions of organizations. It also includes additional information and resources to help engage residents ahead of the referendum this fall, no later than Nov. 30.

“This is the first step towards asking voters if they want a change from our current voting system to a system of proportional representation,” Eby said last year. “This is about giving British Columbians the power to decide how we vote.”
