Fire crews were called to the building in the 100-block of West Broadway, which is home to African Arts and Percussions, at around 9:30 p.m.
The fire was fully involved when crews arrived. Thirty-five firefighters were on scene with 10 pieces of equipment, according to Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, and were able to keep the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings. Firefighters were on scene throughout the night.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money to help owners master drummer Kwasi and his wife Lisa rebuild their lives after losing not only their store but their home and all their belongings. The page, which has a goal of raising $10,000 for the couple, was created Monday following the fire Sunday night and had raised more than $4,100 in less than 24 hours.
