Should the Millennium Line Broadway Extension continue on to UBC? That's the question being put to residents.

Vancouverites will have the chance to find out more information and have their say on the future of the train line extension at a Town Hall discussion in the coming weeks.

With the rollout earlier this year of phase two of the 10-Year Investment Plan, talks are now turning to whether the Millennium Line should extend further.

Phase one began in 2017, with $2 billion going towards expanded transit services, infrastructure and improvements for roads, cycling, and walking. While phase two funds about $7.3 billion of transportation improvements in Metro Vancouver.

The project will extend the existing Millennium Line. It will continue from VCC–Clark Station for 800m and then travel about 5km beneath Broadway.

So far the project includes six new stations, ending at Arbutus Street.

The future phase of investment would connect rapid transit all the way to UBC’s Point Grey campus.

In an invite to the event, Quadra MP Joyce Murray said she was not surprised there had been great interest in the project.

“Public transit forms the lifeline of communities—the central arteries through which people move and connect,” she wrote.

“Vancouver Quadra residents rely on public transit to shop; get to work, school, and appointments; and meet friends for coffee.

“Just how public transit is shaped and run has a tremendous effect on the future shape and functioning of the community.”

“Plans to extend the Millennium Line along Broadway to Arbutus are well underway, and talk has turned to the possibility of continuing it on to UBC.
“What do you think?”

The expert panel at the meeting will include, Michelle Barile, from the West Broadway Business Improvement Association, Michael White, Associate Vice President, campus and community planning at UBC, a representative from Translink and a representative from the City of Vancouver.
