Metro Vancouver will remain home to Canada's highest gas prices for the foreseeable future.

BIV reports that Lower Mainland drivers will pay roughly $0.14 per litre more for gasoline this year, and that’s not just thanks to the $5-per-tonne carbon tax increase scheduled for April. To add insult to financial injury, petroleum analyst GasBuddy indicates that Vancouver and Victoria will continue to have the highest gasoline prices of 22 Canadian cities.

Last week, gas prices in the Lower Mainland hovered around $1.35 per litre. GasBuddy’s 2018 forecast sees daily average highs for Vancouver of $1.46 to $1.52 per litre.

The carbon tax increase is expected to add $0.01 to the price of gasoline in B.C., with Lower Mainlanders also paying an additional transit levy on gasoline.
