A Go Fund Me campaign has been launched to assist the family of Ian Moore Wilson, who was among those killed in the Barcelona last Thursday. His wife, Valerie, was severely injured in the attack.

An online fundraiser to help the family of the Canadian killed in last week’s terrorist attack in Barcelona has raised close to $5,000 in less than 24 hours.

Ian Moore Wilson, the father of a Vancouver Police Department staff sergeant, was among those killed in the attack last Thursday.

“My dad, Ian Moore Wilson, was a much-loved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, who lived a healthy, active life alongside his partner of 53 years, my mum, Valerie,” S/Sgt. Fiona Wilson said in a statement Friday. “He was compassionate, generous, adventurous, and always game for a lively debate, a good book, exploring new places, and a proper-sized pint.”

The couple was in Barcelona to watch their grandson play soccer when the attack, which also left Valerie severely injured, occurred.

A gofundme.com campaign was started on Sunday to help the family and by Monday morning it had already raised $4,925.

“Instead of focusing on the unspeakable hatred that precipitated this, Valerie’s family has chosen to focus on the incredible acts of human kindness they experienced in this trying time,” the campaign reads.

In her statement following the attack, Wilson also spoke of the kindness the family had encountered.

“In the midst of this tragedy, my dad would want those around him to focus on the extraordinary acts of human kindness that our family has experienced over the past several days, and that is exactly what we intend to do.”
