A group of Trans Mountain pipeline protesters are expected to storm federal justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould’s constituency office in Vancouver this morning.

Victoria-based Rise and Resist Kinder Morgan is bringing a group by bus up from the Island to support the Protect the Inlet Coalition, the group that has been organizing protests at the Trans Mountain terminal in Burnaby since March 10. The Victoria group, led by trans and two-spirited people, will be targeting the federal government, arguing that the pipeline needs further, national approval to go ahead.

“The oppression of Trans and Two Spirited identities and the colonization of Indigenous lands and peoples both stem from the same violent, power-over mindset,” said organizer Kym Hines in an emailed statement. “We are here to show our solidarity with the ongoing Indigenous-led occupation against the Kinder Morgan pipeline and the worldview it represents.”

Meanwhile, more than 100 people of different faiths are expected to join protests at the tank farm in Burnaby on Saturday, April 28. Arrests are expected.

Tsleil-Waututh member Will George, who is leading the Protect the Inlet group, put a call out to religious leaders and “all people of faith and spirit” to join them “in our defense of the lands and waters,” according to a release.

Last week, two pastors were arrested after some twenty faith leaders blocked the entrances to the Westridge Marine terminal in Burnaby.
