Swimmer dies after being rescued at Vancouver’s Killarney pool

No information is being provided around the victim’s identity, age or cause of death

A swimmer died Sunday night after being rescued by lifeguards at Killarney Pool.

A swimmer died in hospital Sunday evening shortly after being rescued by lifeguards at Killarney Pool.

A news release issued by the Vancouver Park Board Monday afternoon suggests the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, when lifeguards at the indoor pool rescued the swimmer.

The swimmer was subsequently transported to hospital, where they later died.

The Vancouver Police Department provided no information about the incident, instead deferring to the BC Coroners Service.

A representative for coroners service told Vancouver Is Awesome that the service hadn’t been notified of the incident as of Monday afternoon. No cause of death has been released, nor the age, identity of home town of the deceased.

“Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with the family of the victim,” the park board said in a news release.

The Killarney pool is located within the Killarney Community Centre, which is near Rupert Street and 49th Avenue.
