Teamwork between a witness, transit and Vancouver police Thursday night led to the arrest of three armed robbery suspects.

At around 10 p.m. a man allegedly entered a restaurant on West Broadway near Cambie Street, and the Broadway/City Hall SkyTrain station. The suspect’s face was covered, he was armed with a gun and demanded money from the cash register.

Staff complied and the suspect left the eatery with an undisclosed amount of money.

A resident saw what was happening and reported it to nearby transit police officers, who quickly arrested the suspect and two others for robbery.

“This is another great example of teamwork between the Transit Police and the VPD, and with the public,” media relations officer Const. Jason Doucette said in a press release. “These suspects could have avoided arrest without the witness and officers taking quick action. We encourage people to report suspicious behaviour to police immediately.”

Vancouver police have taken over the investigation and are recommending robbery charges against two Vancouver men in their 20s. The third man was later released without charge.
