It is Father's Day this Sunday and there are plenty of events in the city to enjoy with dad, from art exhibits to a Father's Day walk/run.
This Sunday, Father's Day, is an important day in the lives of many. Everyone, like it or not, has a father. Some may have fond memories of their fathers, some may not. Some memories are distant and some are of step, foster or even grandfather-father figures.
New and experienced anglers alike can cast their lines for free this Father's Day weekend, as part of the 14th annual Free Family Fishing weekend. This year's event runs from June 14 to 16 and allows people to fish for free in most freshwater lakes and non-tidal streams anywhere in B.C. A total of 49 special events are planned in communities throughout the province supported by the Family Fishing Weekend Society, which also provides financial assistance and materials, including fishing gear. Some will spend Father's Day on Sunday on the golf course with Dad, others will flock to restaurants, while others might watch football. While these are all common ways to celebrate the day, hundreds of local families are expected to spend at least part of Father's Day getting close to nature, by attending the the Alouette River Managment Society's fish release at Maple Ridge Park.
