Travellers passing through Vancouver International Airport can now access free feminine hygiene products at any information centre, the airport announced on Thursday.
“We were recently made aware of a passenger at YVR who had a hard time finding affordably-priced feminine hygiene products at YVR,” said the airport’s press release. “This shouldn’t happen.”
Last December, the airport conducted a review, taking note of availability and pricing of feminine hygiene products throughout the terminals. At the time, the airport found that eight vendors sold products ranging in price from $2.99 to $7.99 for a 10-pack.
On Wednesday, however, CBC News reported that a woman went to multiple washrooms which did not have feminine hygiene products available. As a result, she was forced to purchase a package of pads for nearly $15. The airport stated that this vendor has since dropped its prices.
Now, all information centres throughout the airport have been stocked with feminine hygiene products. The airport also said it is working to address the need to add more vending machines in its terminals, making sure there is a vending machine in every washroom.
