Churchill secondary students gathered outside their school Tuesday morning to show support for a temporary modular housing complex the City of Vancouver plans to erect about one block from their school.

Roughly 70 people attended the 'welcome' rally, about 30 of whom were students, along with anti-poverty advocates from the Downtown Eastside, incuding Jean Swanson who placed second in the recent byelection for a city council seat.

The city wants to open the complex in February. Critics, who argue it's the wrong location, have blocked access to the site.

That prompted the city, the B.C. Housing Management Commission and the Provincial Rental Housing Commission, to seek an injunction to get it built.

They successfully obtained the injunction Monday from the B.C. Supreme Court.
