The ‘Laughing Man’ meme is being used to mock Vancouver’s reputation for outrageous real estate prices. The video is making the rounds under ‘Vancouver Realtor Deals with First Time Home Buyers’ on YouTube.

The meme uses a video clip of a man being interviewed on a Spanish television show and laughing uncontrollably. In this case, he’s being used to spoof a realtor whose clients only had $1 million to buy property. The video’s subtitles purport him as saying while laughing uproariously, “You can’t even buy a tear down in North Vancouver for $1 million” and “She says she wants a backyard for her kids.”

The video, posted March 18, has earned more than 48,000 views. It appears around the same time as a Vancouver woman launched a campaign using the #donthave1million hashtag to call attention to the fact the average person can’t buy property in the city.

The Laughing Man meme was started by Muslim Brotherhood supporters to mock the Egyptian election, in which they were not allowed to run.

It's since been used to make fun of Apple’s new MacBook and Russian president Vladimir Putin.
