Vancouver to Seattle in 45 minutes?

This morning, a group of leaders from B.C. Washington, Oregon and California is meeting near the Waterfront station in Vancouver. The goal is to "discuss opportunities to strengthen collaboration on critical issues facing all four juridictions."

One topic of conversation is expected to be a high-speed train along the northern Pacific Coast.

Washington's department of transportation released a study last fall that said the project would cost between $24 and $42 billion US. It expected a ridership of 1.8 million people a year.

Taking part in the press conference at the Pan Pacific Hotel will be B.C. Premier John Horgan, Washington state's governor Jay Inslee, California secretary for environmental protection Matt Rodriquez and Oregon energy director Janine Benner.

This is the 10th anniversary of the Pacific Coast Collaborative.

Formed in 2008, the collaborative — which also includes Alaska — says the region is "poised to emerge as a mega-region and global economic powerhouse driven by innovation, energy, geographic location and sustainable resource management, attracting new jobs and investment while enhancing an already unparalleled quality of life."
