It all comes down to this Saturday night.
The AAA senior boys basketball provincial championships started Tuesday at the Langley Events Centre. The final is 8 p.m. March 9.
The Elite 8 was decided Wednesday night, after Thursday we will know our Final Four and after Friday night’s semifinals, the stage will be set for two teams to battle for the 2013 title.
Kitsilano Blue Demons are the highest ranked Vancouver team, ranked No. 2 behind Walnut Grove Gators, a run-and-gun team led by Grade 11 stand-out Jadon Cohee who lost a nailbiter final last year to the Terry Fox Ravens.
In their first game Wednesday afternoon, the Demons defeated the defending champions from Terry Fox 65-54. They played the South Kamloops Titans Thursday afternoon. Luka Zaharijevic led all scorers with 19 points. Noah de Rappard played all 40 minutes and added 16 points.
The St. George’s Saints also advanced to the Elite 8 thanks to a tremendous performance from centre Drew Urquhart who put up 26 points in 39 minutes to beat the Claremont Spartans from Victoria 80-93.
They play the Yale Lions Thursday afternoon.
The Churchill Bulldogs faced a must-win play-in game Tuesday afternoon against the Pitt Meadows Marauders. The Dogs hung on to win 68-64, the final points coming off a three-pointer from Mindy Minhas.
The next afternoon, Churchill faced Walnut Grove and made the Gators earn the 70-62 win. The lead changed six times in the fast, hard-fought game but the Dogs were eliminated in the loss.
Playing for the highest placement they can, Churchill faced the Sardis Falcons on Thursday.
