David Jackson of Abbotsford edged two Vancouver runners to win the 42nd annual James Cunningham Seawall Race, finishing the 9.5 kilometre course in 29 minutes, 33.84 seconds.
His 3:07 pace per kilometre put him on track for a 31:07.15 10km time.
More than 850 runners entered the Lions Gate Road Runners event, many wearing Halloween costumes on a dry, warm Sunday morning in Stanley Park.
Vancouverites Richard Mosley crossed the finish line 34 second after Jackson, followed by Rob Watson who clocked in 50 seconds after the winner.
Catrin Jones of Victoria was the fastest woman and finished 14th overall in 34:41.24. Catherine Watkins was the fastest Vancouver woman, finishing 17 seconds behind Jones to come 16th overall in 34:58.46.
