After three secondary school cross-country meets on two Vancouver trails, the Killarney Cougars lead the VSSAA with three straight wins in the senior girls and senior boys divisions.

The four fastest overall runners for the Cougars have beat the four best runners from competing schools, giving Killarney a lead in the district races hosted by the Vancouver Secondary School Athletic Association (VSSAA).

Philip Ngo has consistently cracked the top three for Killarney. The Grade 11 harrier won the most recent race, held on a 6.8-km course at Jericho Park, just 33 seconds ahead of Grade 10 teammate Daniel Soliven.

He was second behind Tupper's Michael Harris in the first race at Quilchena Park Sept. 27. In the second race Oct. 5 also at Quilchena, Ngo was third behind Harris and winner Thomas Nobbs from Point Grey secondary.

Kitsilano Blue Demon Katia Lumb has so far swept the senior girls races, winning all three meets. The Grade 11 runner won the first meet by more than a minute in a field that was missing some of her toughest competition, including teammate Annika Austin and Van Tech's Annelise La Pointe who reached the podium at subsequent races.

Kendra Lewis won the first two junior girls races but did not compete in the third, which was claimed by two-time second-place runner, Lord Byng's Bridgett Baziw. Lewis and Baziw battled in an unforgettable one-two finish at the VSSAA track and field city championship last season.

The fourth and final league meet begins at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at Fraserview Golf Course.

The city championship final is Oct. 26, also at Fraserview Golf Course.

The cross-country B.C. championships are in Peachland on Nov. 5.
