The beer leaguers from Bomber Brewing are gearing up to get pucks deep and donations even deeper.

The fourth annual Beer League BASH goes March 10, in what’s best described as equal parts beer festival, donation drive and hockey tournament.

The end goal sees all proceeds from the tourney donated to the BASH (Britannia After School Hockey) program, which fosters on-and off-ice skills with coaches and mentors.

In the four years since its launch, the tournament has raised about $5,000.

“We all grew up playing [hockey], and just got so much from it. Every kid should get that chance,” said Cam Andrews, Bomber’s creative director, in an email to the Courier.

Come game day, 17 local craft breweries will be serve up cans of suds around the Britannia concourse while the brewery teams clash on the ice. The beers will come by way of Yellow Dog, Strangefellows, Steel & Oak, Steamworks, Red Truck, Powell Street, Parallel 49, Moody Ales, Main Street, Luppolo, Doan’s, Central City, East Van Brewing, Strathcona, Four Winds, Old Yale and Bomber.

Attendees are encouraged to bring gently-used hockey gear to donate. Instead of a tax receipt, they’ll receive $1 off of each can of beer.

The Beer League Bash runs from 3 to 9 p.m. at Britannia rink and for those aged 19 and up. A $20 ticket gets you one beer and entry into the afterparty at Britannia Hall.
