Coun. Marvin Hunt wants TransLink to purchase natural gas (CNG) buses for all new buses in the City of Surrey.

Hunt planned to submit a notice of motion for Surrey council to consider during a council meeting Monday (March 12) to send a request to TransLink.

"In the big picture, Surrey is trying to work hard at using alternate fuels, green energy, all those good things," Hunt said, pointing to the city seeking use of alternate fuels in fleet vehicles and major contractors. "So then we begin asking, what's the next logical piece of the puzzle?"

Hunt said it just makes sense to ask TransLink to purchase CNG buses for the city because natural gas is cheaper and in abundance. He's not sure how TransLink will respond to the request.
