Blues Explosion! It’s an all-out ’90s indie rock love-in as the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion brings its sweaty, stripped down swamp-boogie swagger to the Biltmore Nov. 14 with openers Quasi, featuring Heitmiser’s Sam Coomes and Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss. The Turning Point Ensemble celebrates the centenary of Barbara Pentland with the first professional public performance of her 1952 one-act opera The Lake, at the Chan Centre, Nov. 14 and 15, 8 p.m. With a libretto by the Canadian poet Dorothy Livesay and music by Aaron Copland, the opera is based on Susan Allison, the first white female settler in the Okanagan, and her experiences with the indigenous peoples, the land and a sea monster.
