With fall on its way, I always invest in skincare to protect my skin from the dryer weather. As I open my bathroom drawer, I’m reminded of all the money I have spent and wasted on products that didn’t perform as well as expected.

Sephora has basically become the Shoppers Drug Mart of cosmetics except minus the groceries and drugs. Sephora also offers affordable pricing when it comes to beauty products and the selection is endless. I decided to take things into my own hands and asked Sephora to recommend some of their beauty must haves for fall and tested them all out myself.

There are three factors that I based my results on: ease of application, how it performed after six hours of wear and amount of quantity needed to get the intended effect. Some products were definite must haves and some I passed on and would recommend keeping that extra cash in your pocket.

I tried a combination of products each week for an entire month. Most products impressed me and some have even made their way into my permanent beauty routine. The conclusion of my review yielded three things I learned:

1. When it comes to beauty product it’s not always price that makes a difference when it comes to quality.

2. Some products also require some care in application for a long lasting wear. Also, pay attention to how your skin changes with season when finding an appropriate product to suit your needs.

3. Take your time to try the products and start small. Go for the smaller size if it’s a new product. This will give you time to decide how well it works with all the other products in your drawer. This will keep cash in your pocket and increase much needed real estate in your drawer for useful products.

Fall beauty must haves. Go glossy or Matte for lips.
(MUST HAVE) Kat Von D lock it long wear foundation $41.Application: 4/5. This foundation applies dryer than most liquid foundation so you may have to work faster with this product. Performance 4.5/5. This foundation lasted for more than 6 hours with little fading or caking. Quantity 4.5/5. You require only a small amount to reach the intended effect.
Sephora silicone free primer $18. Application 4/5. The primer goes on very smoothly with a cool refreshing feel. Performance 3/5. The primer lasted with foundation for approximately 5-6 hours but may need an application of powder to sustain effect. Quantity: 3/5. I used about 3 pumps of the primer to smooth skin surface.
(MUST HAVE) Sephora Patone Universe primer $31. Application 5/5. The primer was light, smooth and gave skin a refreshing boost and feel. Performance 4/5. This primer provided a good base for ease in applying foundation locking in the foundation for over 7 hours. Quantity 4/5. A fairly small amount was needed for the intended effect.
Sephora Ultimate Moisture Serum $29. Application 4/5. Smooth application with mild scent. Performance: 3/5. This depends on how dry your skin is. For the harsher winter you may need an intensive moisturizer or a moisturizing primer. Product lasted for 6 hours. Quantity: 4/5. A minimal amount of the product was needed for skin to feel moisturized.
(MUST HAVE) Sephora Intensive moisturizer $24. Application 5/5. This went on very light and can be used as a night time moisturizer. Performance: 5/5. This helped skin feel moisturized all day for over 7 hours. Little reapplication of makeup was needed with this. Quantity 5/5. Minimal amount of this product was needed for effect.
Sephora Patone Universe Dazzling lip gloss $29. Application 2/5. This was a thicker and stickier gloss. I prefer a lighter and smooth application. Performance: 2.5/5. The gloss began to clump because it¹s thicker in consistency after 1 hour. Quantity 3/5. If you want a darker effect you will need to apply at least 3 layers.
Sephora Patone Universe Alchemy of color lip luster lipstick $22. Application 3/5. This lipstick goes on smooth but because there is an outer rim of clear gloss around the color it¹s difficult to get color right to the edge of lips. Rub lips together to blend color. Performance 4/5. The color and wear of this lasted for approximately 4 hours which is fairly good for lip color and gloss combination. Quantity 4/5. Only one application is needed for the intended effect and color.
Sephora instant radiance foundation $26. Application 4/5. This foundation went on smooth and was easy to blend. Performance 3/5. A touch up using light powder is needed after 4-5 hours. Quantity 3.5/5 You will need approximately two applications to reach intended effect.
(MUST HAVE) Sephora jumbo 12 hour waterproof liner $15. Application 5/5. This jumbo liner goes on smooth and is great to blend for eye shadow. I use the light pink shade to add shine and brighten the eyes. Performance 5/5. This lasted for over 8 hours without clumping or running. Quantity: 5/5 you will only need one application for intended effect. For a more intense shade a second application can be used.
Sephora cream lip stain $14. Application 4.5/5. This cream lipstick goes on very smooth and dries quickly. Performance 4/5. The color lasted for approximately 4 hours. Quantity 4/5. One application was needed for the intended effect for color.
(MUST HAVE) Rita Hazan foaming clear gloss ultimate shine for hair $26. Application 5/5. The light foam did not leave hands and hair sticky. The smooth and light consistency of the product was easy to handle. Performance 5/5. Quantity 4.5/5 Only a small amount is needed. Too much will make your hair look flat.
Sephora face complexion brush $7. Application and performance 5/5. This brush is amazing. At first the bristles might look harsh on the face but it¹s actually quite soft. It gently exfoliates your skin and gets off any foundation from your day that you might have missed.
(MUST HAVE) Sephora rouge shine lipstick $14. Application 5/5. This lipstick goes on silky smooth. Performance 5/5. This moisturizes my lips all day and stays on for approximately 4 hours. Quantity 5/5. You will require one application to get the intended effect.
(MUST HAVE) Sephora color lip last lipstick $15. Application 4.5/5. The lip last lipstick goes on smooth but be careful with application because it can be hard to get off your skin if you run off course. Performance 5/5. This lip stick has the longest period of wear out of all the lip sticks I have ever owned. Expect approximately 6-8 hours of wear. Quantity 5/5. I tried a dark red shade and the color is vibrant and only requires one application.
Sephora instant depuffing eye mask $7. Application 5/5. You simply put the mask on for this one. Performance 3.5/5. I definitely felt rejuvenated after the mask and my eyes were definitely less puffy for approximately 4 hours. I guess there are some things only a night of good rest can fix.
