When it comes to style, Vancouver has been known for the increasing trend of yoga pants. But yoga pants are not always flattering on certain people’s physiques because it leaves very little to the imagination—we’re talking muffin tops and cellulite.

If you are wearing yoga pants to any event other than to exercise you are being lazy, period, no excuses. You have also contributed to our ranking in GQ magazine as the third worst dressed city in the world.

This week, I sought to challenge GQ’s ranking and hit the streets in search of Vancourites that exhibit a great sense of west coast style.

Among my favorites is the use of blazers, which is a great transitional item from summer to fall. Hint: accents on blazers such as a satin fabric or faux leather collar and pockets are on trend for fall.

Off shoulder shirts are high on my must haves in the closet. Off shoulder sweaters that are longer in length can be pulled up and paired with leggings or pulled down with a simple belt synching the waist as a sweater dress.

For accessories, I am having a love affair with pearls. I find that it exudes a simple elegance that is understated.

I find that the way we dress reflects who we are and how we feel about ourselves. You don’t have to be uncomfortable to be stylish or lazy to be laid back. Check out these Vancouverites I found with great style.

Carla Catherwood from Toronto show that you can convert a look from day to night by simply layering with a blazer. The white jumper with skinny belt is also great for the day for a more causal look.

Jenn Fox looks amazing at work in a high neckline dress with satin accents. (Remember, differential fabric accents are on trend for fall.) Jenn also adds a hint of colour with a skinny red belt. Her vintage waves complete the look along with bright red lips to pull together a vintage feel.

Alexa Suter from Vancouver pulled an elegant look together for a cocktail night out with friends. This over the knee dress in black and white paired with a pearl necklace and black flats is simply perfection.
