Fans of the hugely popular Dead Rising series may be upset to hear that the Capcom Vancouver studio is shutting its doors for good.
The Vancouver location was responsible for creating each instalment of the series since 2010. Dead Rising is an “open world survival horror” featuring zombies and other monsters as well as unique weapons and plot lines.
The studio announced in a press release that it expects to incur record losses from the termination of development projects of approximately 4.5 billion yen under cost of sales in its consolidated financial results for the six months of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019.
Roughly 158 employees will be affected by the studio’s closure, notes Variety. After this time, a skeleton crew will continue the studio’s operations until the company organizes its final organizations and logistics of its closure.
While the a great deal of people will lose their jobs as a result of the closure, a number of local companies are already announcing that they have positions available.
In fact, a litany of gaming companies took to Twitter to offer their support within hours of the announcement.
Super sorry to hear about all the talented folks from Capcom Vancouver. Capy is hiring for some roles in art & tech. My DMs are open so please reach out. If anyone has a list of those affected, please send it my way.
