Campbell River RCMP are warning people enjoying the outdoors to ensure their belongings are securely locked after a mountain bike was stolen from a campsite.

The theft happened the night of July 4 at the Elk Falls Provincial Park campground.

Police said thieves can be “quite resourceful” at getting through cheap locks and chains, and such items as bicycles, generators and camping gear seem to be popular on the black market.

“Unfortunately, the folks who steal such items seem to have very little restraint in what they are doing and bike thefts keep occurring in rather brazen fashion,” said Campbell River RCMP Const. Maury Tyre.

The stolen bike is a red and white Specialized Big Hit 2 with full suspension and front and rear disc brakes.

Police ask anyone with information to call Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
