A man was arrested in Nanaimo after he decided to spray-paint a police vehicle while an officer happened to be watching.

The RCMP officer was at a Tim Hortons on Wallace Street about 9 a.m., responding to an unrelated report of spray painting at the business. Someone had spray-painted the floor and left just before the officer showed up.

The officer was taking pictures of the damage when someone yelled: “They’re painting your car.”

A man had hopped onto the hood of the police vehicle and was spraying paint on the windshield.

When the officer approached, the man jumped down, giving a final blast of paint to the side of the vehicle.

The man was quickly arrested. When he was gathering the man’s belongings, the officer found a small amount of crystal methamphetamine.

The 24-year-old faces two counts of mischief.

The officer was able to get the paint off the windshield and continue working.
