The B.C. Conservation Officers Service has seized a fawn and charged a Cumberland resident for confining the young deer.
The resident was cited under the Wildlife Act for confining a wild animal and was fined $345.
Chris Doyle, deputy chief of the conservation service, said the captive fawn, which was seized Wednesday, was sent to a rehabilitation centre where it is being assessed for return to the wild.
The conservation service is reminding people that does often leave their fawns for extended periods while they forage for food. Fawns should be left alone unless there is obvious distress.
